Most People Don't Know They Have Sleep Apnea

An estimated 80% of moderate-to-severe sleep apnea cases go undiagnosed. Sleep studies cost $1,000 or more. Most people wait years — or never get checked at all.

Cost Barrier

A formal sleep study (polysomnography) costs $1,000–$5,000. Insurance coverage is inconsistent. Most people never access it.

Years to Diagnosis

Average time from symptom onset to sleep apnea diagnosis is 6–7 years. Unmanaged OSA contributes to hypertension, heart disease, and stroke.

Nobody Talks to Their Doctor

Most patients don't bring up sleep issues at primary care visits. They don't know the warning signs. They don't know the right questions to ask.

Screen Yourself in 2 Minutes. For Free.

The Axion Sleep Apnea Screener puts two clinically validated tools in your pocket — the STOP-BANG questionnaire and Mallampati throat classification — with on-device analysis and a PDF you can show your doctor.

Not a medical diagnosis. This app is an educational screening tool. Results should be discussed with a qualified healthcare provider.

Mallampati Assessment

Self-guided throat classification used by anesthesiologists and sleep specialists. Class III/IV scores correlate with higher OSA risk.

Risk Score Analysis

Combined scoring across both assessments. Clear Low / Moderate / High risk classification — runs fully on-device, so it never touches your data plan.

Shareable Clinical PDF

Export a formatted clinical summary with your STOP-BANG score, Mallampati class, risk category, and recommended next steps. Hand it to your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This app is an educational screening tool — not a diagnostic device. The STOP-BANG and Mallampati tools are widely used in clinical practice for risk stratification, but a definitive diagnosis of sleep apnea requires a formal sleep study (polysomnography) ordered by a physician. Use this app to start the conversation with your doctor.

Everything runs on your phone. No servers, no accounts, no analytics. No airtime used — the app never touches your data plan. Your answers, scores, and PDFs stay on your device by design.

STOP-BANG is a validated 8-item screening questionnaire developed at the University of Toronto for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It stands for: Snoring, Tiredness, Observed apnea, Blood Pressure, BMI, Age, Neck circumference, Gender. Scores of 0–2 indicate low risk; 3–4 moderate risk; 5–8 high risk. It is widely used in pre-surgical screening worldwide.

The Mallampati classification is an airway assessment developed by Dr. Seshagiri Mallampati that grades throat anatomy on a scale of Class I–IV based on how much of the soft palate, uvula, and tonsils are visible when you open your mouth. Class III and IV are associated with increased risk of OSA. The app guides you through the self-assessment with visual reference images.
